Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position

Senior Cost Accountant provides leadership and full technical support for all cost-related activities including cost variance analysis and management, inventory analysis and reporting, budgeting, accounting practices and providing assistance and support in the development of lean manufacturing processes and enhanced cost allocation systems in cooperation with other departments. Job costing is an integral function in our company as many of our products are manufactured to our customers specification. This position also provides financial analysis and support to the Controller and CFO.

  • Coordinate and assist in directing the monthly close, monthly forecast, annual budget and other investment activities of all or part of the organization.
  • Develop, maintain and publish meaningful business analysis to assist management in decision making and aiding company in achievement of goals and objectives including:
    • Sales and margin trends / forecasts
    • Product Line, Customer, Industry cost and margin analysis
    • Variance analysis to budget, FY and forecast for material, labor and overhead
  • Producing and maintaining labor and overhead rates
  • Inventory valuation, turns and reserve analysis
  • Produce/track business key performance indicators
  • Ensure control over inventory through audit and support of cycle count program and annual physical inventories
  • Financial liaison as participant in lean events and support cost saving, margin enhancement activities
  • Support production and sales functions in attaining and measuring initiatives in cost reduction, margin enhancement and working capital improvement
  • Improve controls and business processes including defining, documenting and implementing new policies as identified.

Salary Range: \$100,000-\$115,000

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA/CMA certification(s) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of public accounting or general accounting experience, and 2 years in Cost Accounting

Essential Skills

  • Strong systems/ERP experience/exposure
  • Proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel, report writing and/or data mining software
  • Goal and deadline driven; excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize daily work and projects and achieve results
  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills including ability to present financial information to all levels of the organization.
  • Detail oriented yet able differentiate/prioritize the relevant from non-relevant
