Job Description:

The Rudolf Research Group at the Department of Chemistry, University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Natural Products Discovery and Biosynthesis. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Jeffrey Rudolf (https://rudolf.chem.ufl.edu/), focusing on genome-based discovery, biosynthesis, and enzymology of bacterial terpenoids. This one-year appointment is renewable based on performance and funding availability.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in multiple areas of natural products chemistry, molecular biology, and biochemistry. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for conducting the research in the identification, isolation, and characterization of terpenoid natural products and the chemical and biochemical characterization of biosynthetic genes/enzymes. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also be expected to mentor graduate students, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and assist in funding applications.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related area

Strong background in natural products isolation and structural elucidation, including 1D and 2D NMR, LC- or GC-MS

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with any of the following techniques:

  • Organic synthesis

  • Molecular biology

  • Bacterial genetics, including work withStreptomyces

  • Microbial fermentation

  • Protein purification and characterization

  • Bioinformatics

  • A strong track record of publications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, time-manage, and resolve problems
