Heat treat production steel and aluminum parts, tooling parts, dies and stock made from steel or steel alloys. Determines the heat treat process and quenching required to obtain results. Determines proper timing and temperature of ovens, salt baths according to material composition, shape, size and thickness. Makes necessary allowances for subsequent fabrication operations. Determines proper loading to minimize warpage. Makes special set-ups from rods and straps to cradle and hold odd shaped parts. Places parts under refrigeration as required.

Performs such typical operations as heat treating machine parts, dies, and tooling parts which must be held to exacting dimensions and which require no further finish or require only final or clean-up grind; heat treating of tool steel dies which have both thick and thin sections and are subject to considerable danger of cracking, shrinking, or warping; dies requiring sharp edges, such as blank dies, dies having compound contours that must coordinate and nest.

Performs such typical operations as annealing and hardening primary stressed aircraft parts such as landing gears, motor mounts and landing gear struts which have subsequent machining operations. Anneals tooling parts and heat treats larger tooling parts according to established formula.
