Winland Foods R&D Lab Supervisor in Oak Brook, Illinois

The newly created R&D Lab Supervisor will be responsible for running a safe, effective and flexible labs in our brand new R&D lab in Oak Brook, IL. This includes leading R&D labs and pilot plant operations, working with the team to develop products and processes across Winland’s product categories, maintaining R&D laboratory and equipment, ensuring safety guardrails and GMPs are followed.

Job Description:

  • Support the Product and Packaging Development teams as needed on pilot plant testing. Conduct or assist in prototype preparation and packaging, mix and batch preparation, data collection and equipment set-up, operation and clean up. Responsible for disassembly, sanitation and reassembly of pilot plant equipment

  • Prepare for pilot plant testing in collaboration with the Product and Packaging Development teams

  • Coordinate and maintain the schedule for pilot trials

  • Administer Winland Foods’ Safety Program to ensure the facility’s compliance with federal and state OSHA and environmental regulations

  • Contract for maintenance, security, grounds keeping, housekeeping, and solid and hazardous waste disposal services

  • Maintain an effective inventory control program to ensure raw ingredient availability, Shelf life and lot code tracing, catalogue equipment location and availability and secure storage of incoming ingredients, products, packaging, and equipment

  • Coordinate and support activities for on-site customer presentation/meetings

  • Maintain accurate and complete records

  • Troubleshoot equipment operations when issues arise

  • General lab upkeep/cleaning

  • Create and receive POs in SAP system

  • Responsible for up-keep and calibration of all laboratory equipment

Qualifications, Requirements & Preferred Attributes:

  • 6 years related experience

  • Good understanding of processing, preferably in food manufacturing

  • Preferred experience in preventative maintenance

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which includes exposure to and handling of allergens

  • Strong customer service mindset

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

  • Must be a self-starter, independent, energetic and resourceful

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently

Education: Associate Degree/College Diploma (Canada – 2-3 years)

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred – Type: Food Science or Related Field
